  1. Been there. Flash burn blisters on your eyes are lots of fun.

  2. Looks like either a "journalist" or a politician in his/her/their element, acting like a human and fucking up.

  3. Why would anyone use an old style helmet? I bought an auto-darkening helmet in '07 for a welding night class. IIRC they cost about the same as the safety boots I had to buy.

    1. That helmet looks like a 3M Adflo, which has auto-darkening lenses.

    2. My wife's old man didn't realize that the batteries were going dead in his and blistered his eyeballs. He went back to old school.

    3. That's what I was thinking, Anon. Didn't quite look like an old style hood, which is what I used for years.
Flipping it down was never a biggie, once you got good at it. That, and the clear lenses and filters were a lot cheaper with the old hoods, which was always a concern when you had to buy your own. That and I'd go thru a lot of them welding flux cored wire. Lincoln MS3N was especially smokey stuff.

    4. Dang. It's NS3M, not MS3N.
The older you get, the more dyslexic you get.
I guess it beats the alternative. That's what they tell me, anyway.

  4. Some kid I went to high school with used to just squint while arc welding in shop. He burned out the color yellow in his vision. Don't know if it was permanent.
