Bears are canines. Canines have the instinct to chase something if it runs away. Almost the worst thing you can do, is try to run away from a bear.
STAND AND FIGHT !!! (best if you have a BIG CALIBER gun though). Seriously ( and clearly not knowing the entire situation like why was the bear trying to get at them in the first place?) if they had all stood their ground and started yelling and waving their arms, good chance the bear would have turned tail.
Bears are ursines. They are predators. Most predators have the instinct to chase. They are also omnivores which means they can eat almost anything that is edible, be it animal, vegetable, or fruit.
The towing vehicle was too light, combined with the trailer having not enough hitch weight. I have seen that more than a few times, and once it starts, you are pretty much screwed.
#1 I am guessing they were there to trap the bear and it wasn't cooperating. #4 is a typical phone zombie, not paying attention to anything but the stupid phone.
#10- That could have screwed the guy up pretty good. He was lucky. I have a friend who was in the Navy and had to work with the boilers, etc. He said that when they walked through the area, they used a broom handle to waive in the air first, kind of like a handicapped person with a white cane. It seems that the high-pressure steam, even a tiny pinhole, would cut the broom handle in two, even though they could not see it. I can just imagine what that would do to a person.
Yep. Pinhole high-pressure hydraulics are even worse. Even the low pressure ones on a front-end loader. Count yourself lucky if you only tattoo down through the muscle.
I was driving log truck in the 70's when we switched from rags (bias) to radials. We started with the steer tires and worked our way towards the trailer as we could afford them. With every new set of radials we put on, the truck handled differently. It got downright squirrelly sometimes, but we finally achieved the complete conversion without a problem, but you sure had to pay attention to what you were doing, that's for sure.
I'm not sure it would have worked with the vehicle towing the squirrely trailer in the tunnel, but there have been times when I have used speed to stop the fishtailing. Then, once the vehicle has stabilized, slowly brake to the desired speed or stop.
#1 - So did the bear get them...???

carnivore, not canine. dogs are canines.

Deleteyou only have to outrun the slowest guy in the crowd, not the bear
Delete9 Tail wagged the dog. Needed more tongue weight.
ReplyDeleteNo way that car had enough towing capacity to haul that truck.

DeleteGotta give him a bit of credit. That thing was strapped down tight.
DeleteMankind at it's finest in so many ways.
ReplyDeleteMust, I mean have to know the ending of #1.
ReplyDelete#1 I am guessing they were there to trap the bear and it wasn't cooperating.

ReplyDelete#6 No more wrasslin' on TV for you, ya little bastard.
ReplyDeleteVince McMahon would sign that kid up !
DeleteWhat the heck is going on in #8?
ReplyDeleteBased on the color, I'm guessing a pavement marking truck was rear ended.
Delete#10- That could have screwed the guy up pretty good. He was lucky.

That is true… it’ll cut you like a hot knife through butter

DeleteLooks like beer ,to me.
DeleteBoiler Tech US Navy
DeleteMaybe after a middle strike.
I remember when radial ply tires came out and this was a common problem when towing a trailer with bias ply.

DeleteYep - speed of the towing vehicle or hitting the trailer brakes - but you'd also need a good bit of luck for that one.
Delete#1 Jeremiah Johnson would be proud. Not.
ReplyDelete#6 And you wonder why there's a barrier around the bed. Needs some razor wire, though.
ReplyDeleteThe best anti bear gun in the world is a .22 Pistol. You shoot your hiking partner in the knee....
ReplyDeleteI'll let myself out....
But, Fjb!!
