Building A Brick House

Made by the National Film Board 1946.  Directed by Eric Thompson.  This film makes clear for the layperson the whole pattern of building construction for a brick home, from the moment that the architect prepares working plans to the completion of the house itself.

  4. I love that voice over. In Britain before TV became universal, they used to show a news reel before the features at the cinema, the voice overs always sounded just like this guy. Is it the same guy every time or is there a school somewhere that churns them out?

  5. Post war construction of housing was accelerated because of the baby boom. Also enormous numbers of migrants from war torn Europe were shipped to OZ until the mid-fifties. Whole suburbs sprang up almost overnight, and these type of houses were are still around in perfect order. Most have been extended over the years. All were built on the quarter acre blocks . Later housing in the late fifties and sixties were timber framed and clad in asbestos fire cement sheeting. Very cheap. A lot of these are still around. Most houses built these days will not last 20 years without expensive renovation. Quite sad as to what Australia has sunk to. I despair about my country sometimes.
