New Jersey sees 3,000% increase in permits to carry guns
A year after the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in favor of Americans' right to carry guns in public, the issuance of permits to carry guns has skyrocketed in the Garden State.
In 2021, the year before the ruling, 631 gun-carry permits were issued in New Jersey. That number went up to 19,933 in 2023, a 3,000% increase, according to recently released data by the Attorney General's Office.
NJ has a strong firearm history - Aaron Burr shot & killed Alexander Hamilton at Weehawken. Here's the QRD: https://www(DOT)atlasobscura(DOT)com/places/weehawken-dueling-grounds. Do the needful.
previously a Superior Court Judge had to give the OK for a concealed carry permit. So only the extremely well-connected, in a political sense, got carry permits.
It’s more than they say, before Bruen more than half of those permits were for work-purposes, armed guards/armored car transport, and gun store employees.
Anywhere one needs a "permit" to exercise a right guaranteed in the Constitution, the "right" ceases to exist. The only "permit" required to carry a firearm anywhere at any time for any reason is the Second Amendment.
Any law; local, state, or federal, about firearm regulation, except where that law addresses the rights of felonious criminals and illegal aliens is, per se, an "infringement".
