In case you forgot, the 1968 convention began with ominous foreboding. True, the mayor had done everything he could to prettify the city, including screening the stockyards with redwood fences, but he knew the anti-Vietnam protestors would target the convention and mobilized the National Guard with orders to shoot if necessary.

I don't think the Chicongo convention will be riotous. The BLMers and the Twinks are for the most part Demonrats and will not want to disrupt this convention.
ReplyDeleteThe convention to watch for looting, riots and fires will be the RNC convention in Milwaukee July 15-18. Milwaukee is a notorious Demonrat stronghold, also with a large black population. If there's going to be riots, looting, fires and muggings, I'd expect it to be there, especially with Trump as the presumptive nominee.

I was 10 years old, living in Chicago in 1968. The SDS took over our local park as a staging ground for going downtown. Two wacked out nuts had a 10' length of chain they spun around their heads and threw at each other. I assume they were practicing for the riots. Lots of weird looking people hanging around. It's "seared" into my consciousness. Frankly, I wondered why the cops didn't just shoot them.

According to posts and comments on secondcitycop.blogspot.com far too many police are retiring or scheduling surgery for July, and they are already short 2000 or so street cops.
