Distorted hands, big dicks, etc

A peer-reviewed science journal published a paper this week filled with nonsensical AI-generated images, which featured garbled text and a wildly incorrect diagram of a rat penis. The episode is the latest example of how generative AI is making its way into academia with concerning effects.

  3. Publish or perish, report what the grant funder wants, and a lot of "I'll ignore your fraud if you ignore mine" have combined to destroy trust in the sciences.

A good friend of mine also happens to be a college professor, so I asked him, how many of your students have tried to cheat on papers written by AI. Surprisingly he told me 5 or 6 already. I asked him what he does when he catches one. He said he gives them a 2nd chance to re-do the paper properly and get re-graded as if it didn't happen....or take the chance of getting an F for incomplete work.
He says so far every one took door #1.
