In recent weeks, numerous outlets have run stories or opinion pieces promoting or otherwise examining the novel legal theory, which is the subject of a new paper published by the Harvard Environmental Law Review, according to a Tuesday E&E News report detailing the architects’ efforts to market their idea to prosecutors. The Boston Globe, The Guardian, Newsweek, Inside Climate News and other outlets have all recently published pieces promoting the idea that leading oil companies could or should be charged with murder for their role in climate change, which the theory’s architects claim has caused thousands of deaths in the U.S.
Ah yes, I'm sure this will help with high gas prices. When are we gonna start storing lawyers on the bottom of the sea?
ReplyDeleteYes, I don't care either. BUT, there is a point here, there are more and more true believers everyday who are willing to do this. Remember the Air Force kid in front of the Israeli embassy, he had a security clearance and had been vetted! There is a very small step between setting yourself on fire and putting on a bomb vest and walking into a store or school or oil refinery. Think about that....
ReplyDeleteWrong post, partner.
DeleteIf it were not for the petroleum industry, we would be stuck with 1840s technology. Literally everything currently produced depends upon petroleum to one degree or another.
ReplyDeleteYou want to see "thousands of deaths"? Eliminate the petroleum industry, world population would go down to 1850 levels or about 1.2 billion. That means about 8 billion dead, and it would happen in less than 2 years.
Thankfully most of the first casualties would be all governments, courts, lawyers, all of Gen Z and vast majority of Millennials.
You are not wrong about what the end of oil would mean. Life expectancies would drop to 1850 levels, only after recovering from the immediate cratering post-oil. Diabetics? Absolutely hosed. It is a grim prospect.
DeletePretty much every whale would be dead and gone by 1930. But they never talk about that now, do they?
Delete8 billion dead? What makes anyone think that outcome isn’t intentional or desired?

Who's to blame for the Ice Ages?

This kind of frivolous lawsuit should be used to bankrupt the climate scammers. Hit them with legal costs, court costs, and penalties.
ReplyDeleteAll the oil companies would have to do is say fine and close all the production down for 2 months. By day 5 the chaos and anarchy will soon erase any thought of suing them and the government will promise them anything to reopen.
ReplyDeleteThe halfwits in charge and in the legal world have literally zero concept of how dependent we are on oil.
Enough with the "Novel Legal Theories" already...
