This video has the clearest footage of Iwo Jima I have ever seen, bar none.
Incredible.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'm up for it, but I'll give it a go.
ReplyDeleteDude! NEVER EVER have I seen nor heard of what the narrator called 'rocket trucks' which looked like a Jeep with a Russian Style 'Katyushka' MRLS mounted on the back.... NOW I'm going to have to look into that... CRAZY good footage tho for sure. Great find Bro!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think I got a chubby watching those Flamethrower tanks in action....

DeleteLots of fixed bayonets in that film. Tells the whole story, really.
ReplyDeleteSaw this a LONG time ago but hey...media.
ReplyDeleteMarine center background at 6:54 was my neighbor until his passing at 94 in 2011. Maj. (then) Virgil W.Banning. Retired as Brigadier General. Foreground on radio is Gen. Keller Rockey, Commander 5th Marine division.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about that film. The thoughts of honor, duty, sending wave after wave, incredible warriors trained to kill or die. Oh, did you think I was talking about the Japs? No, I'm talking about us Americians. The narrator said, they chased us off that ridge six times and we finally took it. Holy Shit! My point when ones hears those nouns and adjectives from the pacific theater, most think of the Japs. Why is that? Those American warriors were not only incredible but the victors. One big difference. The Japs were fighting for some numb nuts Emperor they thought was a god or some shit. The Americains were fightiing for their families, friends and the American way. My deepest respect for those men. So many today don't care or unknowingly, walk in their shadow.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best film I've seen about WWII ever. Thank you very much for posting this one.
ReplyDeleteThis film should be shown in every single high school in the United States, but especially in Hawaii. This is what WWII was really like.
I knew a man who fought on Iwo Jima. He still had regular nightmares in the 1980's, 40 years later...
ReplyDeleteJust finished With the Old Breed. Good Lord what our guys endured. I'll save this film for later when I can get into it-TY WC
