Big Brother is watching you

Residents are shocked after a hidden camera disguised as a rock was discovered in a Chino Hills neighborhood.

The camera was designed to blend in with its environment and was carefully placed in a grassy area underneath a tree on a center median.

The camera was also pointed directly at James Dimapasok’s home.

  4. Since it was "filming" from a public area, it seems there should be no expectation of privacy. Open fields exception to the 4th Amendment if done by the government/police. Not much different than a Ring camera facing outward toward the street. So it is hard to see what laws were broken. Still, it is understandably upsetting and disturbing for those being watched. The best defense would be to periodically search for more cameras and make them disappear. It should turn into an expensive game for whomever owns the cameras.

  5. If they know it was pinging the cell towers, then they have a phone number. If they have a phone number they should know who/what owns that phone number.

  6. Man this is a hard one, on one hand someone is obviously watching the house.. On the other hand all those ring doorbell cameras are watching as well....... If your across the street neighbor's ring camera is recording your front yard what do you say ???

    1. You buy a pair of leds, visible and infra-red, and aim them at the camera lens across the street. or put up a fence.

As for the 'rock camera' the gov has gotten permission to place one without a warrant for 6+ months (i'm not in favor of this).

Whatever you do, don't let your 2yo run around naked in your front yard if your neighbor's camera is pointed at your house because that would make them guilty of possession of child pornography, and if its a Ring camera, or other hosted-in-the-could system, also for distribution.

    2. Well I was asking in a rhetorical way not in a there's a creep down the street spying into bedrooms or bathrooms but ok......
My point is there are cameras watching everything in many neighborhoods across the country, it's taken as a no big deal for most but.... and of course lots of them are tired directly into a feed at your local cop shop

  7. A ring camera has a door-step identification purpose, but it includes the wider world view. That's different from a creep setting up direct surveillance of your home, with an unknown an uninvited purpose. I wonder if the guy has daughters living there. Either way though, I'd be setting up another camera with a cell connection to catch the dude when he comes to recover it.

    1. Amen, brother. Get a few cameras out there to get unsub from several angles. Do NOT tell your neighbors anything, as they may be in on it. People need to seriously consider a few things... Do you have any enemies? Business or romantic rivals? Do you show out of place wealth? Could you be considered a soft target? If you actually find a camera, leave it TF alone! You mess w it, you lose all opportunity to learn who is survielling you.

    2. Unsub? Are you a seaman trying to depth-charge the Huns?

  8. For those interested in finding hidden cameras, even small ones, look up "retroreflection". Some companies make some gear that will find them, even behind glass. Range gated IR laser is the heart of it. Otherwise, pay attention to your surroundings. Take reference pics for all seasons. If a strange lump appears, you then have a clue. Consider if you find one... Put your own counter surveillance cam up, don't act stupid and give the game up. Be patient and publically present as boring. If the camera disappears one day, that is what is called an INDICATOR.

  9. If he held onto the camera instead of turning it over to the Sheriffs, he would have been raided by the FEDs for stealing gov't property.

  10. Would an IRcamera or set of NODS be likely to find a camera like this?

Then there was the case of the middle-age lady trying on jeans in a dept store who caught something moving out of the corner of her eye and found a 19 yr old boy shooting video of her nakedness under the stall next door. She quickly caught the rascal and sat on his back until authorities arrived.
