JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An Arlington property owner wants to send a warning about thieves stealing valuable parts of air conditioning units. It could leave you with an inoperable unit and an expensive repair bill.
Don Werkema has a commercial property on the market, ready to be sold. While showing it to a broker, he found his back gate had been tampered with, and copper piping for his eight AC units and a walk-in cooler were gone.

This is why they've been installing HVAC units on roofs or inside cages in California for years now.
yeah, seen the same type of thing back in philly. knew one guy who rented out houses.
ReplyDeletehe gutted them first. then installed all wires and piping behind 1/2 plywood with sheet rock
on top of it. he said it saved him a lot of money over the long term.
and just about all HVAC units in the city where inside a strong cage, sometimes 2 of them. depending on the neighborhood.
AC thefts in Florida are an old thing. Double that on South Florida where you have to run them things at least 320 days a year. Theft for parts for repair and even full units to be reused is an unfortunate side effect of living down there.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if you catch an asshole inside your property.... well, it IS Florida.
