I lived in New Jersey for four years in the early 2000s, after growing up and living in the South for most of my life. I became pretty close to the family across the street. I was visiting them for dinner one night when the father started telling me about all the hassle he was having to go through getting a license for the little Ruger .22 his daughter needed to compete in NRA youth matches. As he went on and on, I started to get sick to my stomach. I hadn’t even thought about New Jersey having gun laws any different than the real America. I had a closet full of shotguns, hunting rifles and a couple pistols. I started looking for jobs back in the South soon after that. The rural North may be okay, but the Boston to Philly metroplex is already a totalitarian nightmare.
