Old Trucks, Dogs and Memories

Life’s journey is sweeter when shared with dogs. They provide us with companionship, security and a sense of well-being, and their undying love and faithfulness are legendary. All for a small investment of food, water and a warm bed. We all end up with the dog we deserve.

As a married man, I’ve been fortunate with our dog family. First was Linus the Beagle. Then came Ruger, an honorable and noble Black Labrador, followed by Cooper. Ruger and Cooper had a love-hate relationship that blossomed into true friendship/love over time. Ruger was a pure breed, while Cooper — a rescue — was a Border Collie and Golden Retriever mix.

  2. i have always liked dogs more than most people. dogs are honest, if they like you ,you know it, if they don't like you, will know it also.
i have always had dogs, most always more than one. i rescued a border collie 2 yrs ago and I have to say that he is the smartest dog i have ever shared a life with, he is smarter than me.
he understands every word i say but i can't understand him. his name is Rougarou but we call him Ruger for short. i also have a Mt Curr (Susie) and a new 8-10 week old puppy (ginger) that some POS tossed out at a neighbors house last week. we never had kids so our dogs are our children.
i just wish they lived longer than me.

  4. If you have a dog that especially loves to go for rides that's a great idea; cremate them and put the ashes in a special case to put in the pickup so they can go for rides with you for as long as you're still kickin'. I wish I had thought of doing that for ol' OB, the dog that never slept as long as the wheels were turning, even when he was 18.

  5. People tell me that I treat my dogs like children and I tell them "they are!!!" I've come to realize, (after losing 12 "children" and currently raising 3 German Shepherds and a Brittany Spaniel), that dogs are perpetual 2 year olds. I tell people that if they raise and treat their dog like a 2 year old child, they will get along fine. They learn and understand everything a 2 yr old toddler would. I see the toddler in the everyday. For instance, I get out their toys and not one them of seems interested until, one of them goes to play with it and then, they all want the same toy!!!
They are with me 24/7 and if someone accuses me of loving my dogs more than people, I will tell them, "if a stranger and my dogs were starving to death, I'd let the stranger die.....then feed them to my dogs"!!!

  6. Max, a GS/Rottie mix, was my bud, my partner, for eight years after adopting him following a friend's divorce. I never had a pet of any kind before, and I will never have another one. When he passed, I was distraught and still can't think of him without tearing up.

    1. I feel you on that. However, when the greatest white pibbie girl passed away of cancer I was distraught. My wife got me another pibbie (brindle girl). I wasn't too keen on the aspect of "she won't be as good as her predecessor". I was proven wrong and my wife was right - it's the love of your 1st dog that leads to your second dog and so on...no regrets.

    2. Diva.

      Here's a link to her story: https://thedailycorgi.com/2010/08/in-memoriam-diva.html

No more dogs for me. No dog can win the comparison to Diva and until I can get over that hurdle, it's not fair to them.
