Good old special effects, too. Had a 20 comment debate on another site about that very GIF. Steam driven ram to lift the front and CGI to hide the ram. Looks cool, but any real car that can wheelie like that would also twist the fame a good 30 degrees or more off the horizontal.
I bet you're a lot of fun at BBQs Don... On other note, I've seen plenty pro-stock cars pulling some pretty impressive wheel stands leaving the line when the yellow goes green.. JD
Hollywood trickery, using a smoke machine and CGI to digitally remove the hydraulic wheelie bar under the centre of the car. Go to the 5m30s mark here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJgtRx3wC6g&t=353s Al_in_Ottawa
Kenny has been looking at daily time waster again. That gif and comments about the Hollywood trickery used, I think it was from a fast & furious movie?
Why, yes, I am a lot of fun at BBQs, JD. Thanks for asking.
And yes, I've seen a lot a cars launch and lift the wheels too. Had an old Dodge with a 440 magnum, it could lift the driver's side tire several inches on a good launch, or smoke both rear tires on a bad, but never smoke and lift at the same time. I also marvel at the fact that a movie exclusively aimed at import rice rocket cars had to put an old Charger in it to show the kids what cool is all about. Then fucking wreck it.
I'm mostly in agreement with you Don, just pulling your chain a little..... I've seen cars launch with both front tires lifting off the ground and rear tire smoke, not to this degree, but I've never seen one go up so level.... The torque will most always pull the left side higher due,to the twisting of the chassis... As to your other point, Hollyweird is not known for being intelligent enough to make logical movies and if they did it probably boring as hell... Enjoyed our discussion, have a great weekend JD
The Charger wheelie is hollywood magic done with hydraulics and a hinged chassis. Somewhere there is video of how it was done for whatever Vin Diesel movie its from.
I have a 2018 pacifica. It can do a gear change and I look in the rear view mirror to see if my tranny is in the road. They say it is a learning transmission. I do expect one day for it to figure it out and I will see my tranny in my rear view mirror.
#1 You can have enough torque and traction to pull the fronts off the ground or you can have enough torque and lack of traction to smoke the tires but you cant have both at the same time.
