My birds love meat and especially chicken. I'll shred any meats in our leftovers and toss it in their coop, and they'll fight over the meat scraps while ignoring the vegetables.
one thing I do miss from my childhood was mornings at grandma's house. fresh eggs and smoked ham or bacon. all from the farm. life was a lot simpler back then. going and getting the eggs for her to cook. used to look forward to that trip all year. fresh skimmed milk, the cream was for making butter with. good times. dave in pa.
They also love eggs oddly enough, I picked eggs at a 23,000 hen building for a summer when i was 13 and whenever an egg somehow ended up in the feed trough instead of the egg shelf it would be gone in seconds.

I feed my girls meat also but I try to avoid giving them chicken.. for some reason I see that is wrong.
ReplyDeleteIt is wrong.
DeleteNot if the chicken was named Uncle Bozie.
DeleteSame here. They go nuts for Hot Dogs. MH
DeleteAny mice we would kill we would throw into the chicken yard. We called it chicken football.
ReplyDeleteYa, Chickens are raptors. I have kicked over mice nests and the rush to grab baby mice is fun to watch. They will eat anything.
DeleteLost the pic, but this black woman in Charlotte was using a KFC bucket as a lampshade. Amazed it didn't erupt in flames.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, this tastes like Bertha

More than once I've watched our hens run down a mouse, kill it and try to outrun the rest of the flock as they swallow it whole
ReplyDeleteSame with mine. You can actually see the bulge that was a mouse slide down its neck.

ReplyDeleteMeat eating chickens! Guess they don't care much about saving the planet. /s
ReplyDeleteI used to love catching mice and tossing them in with the chickens, alive of course.
