DeleteI recall a scene from "We Were Soldiers" where the Mel Gibson character tells the Sam Elliot character that he ought to get a M-16 rifle issued to him. Sam responded "If the time comes I need one, there'll be plenty lying on the ground". Never really thought about that before hand, but yeah that quote stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteRespectively, they were LTCOL Hal Moore and SGM Basil Plumley. That was a real exchange between the two the first morning on the battlefield at LZ X-Ray. If you've never read the book the film is based on I cannot recommend it highly enough.
