Hours before the first night of the tour kicked off in Alpharetta, Georgia on Friday, June 21, an announcement was posted on social media that the 91-year-old wouldn’t be able to perform.

I saw him in Stockton about 20 years ago and it was undoubtedly the worst concert I've ever been to.
The volume was way too loud for the venue, and the entire show was just one long medley played at twice the normal speed.
Never could stand him.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened? Did Willie's drug mule get caught or has he been consigned to Federal prison for tax evasion?
ReplyDeleteI saw him about 50 years ago in concert at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Pittsburgh. He was in his prime and gave a great concert. It was the first time I had ever seen an audience throw joints up onto the stage after a song. Willie grinned and picked up a few and put them in his pocket.
ReplyDelete"...and the entire show was just one long medley played at twice the normal speed." You've noticed that also, eh? Yeah, I've seen a couple of "specials" of his and wow, talk about perfunctory. Almost as if, " I have to play x amount of songs; and then I can get away from here".
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that the "light" has disappeared from his aura.
His latestsong is a duet about gay cowboys.
ReplyDeleteVery amusing tune.
DeleteI don't think I ever paid to see him in concert. but I've noticed on some live videos he 'speak sings', speaking the lyrics with an occasional sung note while barely strumming his guitar in sync with the lyrics. Maybe he no longer gives a fuck, idk.
ReplyDeleteCoinkadinkally, he got 'the jab', as did THE LATE Loretta Lynn and THE LATE B J Thomas.
Dolly Parton also got 'the jab' & urged her fans to.
The guy is 91. Right wrong, good, bad or indifferent you won't have to worry about ole Willie much longer. I will say I like that new song "The Border" written by Rodney Crowell who is a spring chicken at a mere 73 years old.
ReplyDeleteI find that song completely ironic coming from him considering he campaigned not only for Beto O’Rourke for for Brandon as well. I have alot of Willie music just dont listen to it anymore.
DeleteI saw him around 1979-80 in Reno, I enjoyed it from what I can remember...
ReplyDeleteWillie is 91 yrs old, and has been living at least the last 50 or 60 of those years on a tour bus
ReplyDeletegetting to the next gig. Not sure I could survive that kinda lifestyle. for that long. nonstop.
Think ill go burn one in his honor.
When BLM and Anitfa were burning down cities I saw him in and interview and he said, " I think people ought to do what to fuck they want to." I was never a fan but that statement sealed my dislike. I remember as a kid seeing him, I believe the fifties, on the Ed Sullivan Show. Suit and tie and I didn't like him at all. Had a weird fuckin voice.
ReplyDeleteLong past best buy date. 91 is just too old for this stuff. Next thing you know Obozo will draft him to run for President.
ReplyDeleteAll of Willie's concerts have sucked...
ReplyDeleteI can't confirm, but I don't doubt it's true.
DeleteI also saw him years ago and wish I could remember it. He just sat there and did his thing but I was blistered. Not a fan of spending money and fighting crowds to see folks who used to be worth the trouble of going to see. I saw George Jones years ago right after they put him back out following his bad accident. I’m still pissed. He was the man long ago
ReplyDeleteWent to see him 5 years ago, last time I went to the Twin Shitties.
ReplyDeleteAllison Kraus was awesome, couldn't figure out which songs Willie was supposed to be playing, and when the crowd yelled "Beer for my horses" the wife and I left to go battle Twins traffic and half the roads ripped up and detours everywhere.
Saw him at his July 4th bash at Atlanta Motor Speedway back in the mid eighties. We brought six cases of beer and ran out. Our buddy who drove, took off and left us. Thankfully we were able to hitch a ride back to Decatur.
ReplyDeleteWhy is he still touring at 91? Does he need the money? Still in debt to the IRS? Or, maybe he's just so baked that he doesn't realize what he's doing. Been standing in a noisy room mumbling into a microphone for so long he doesn't know what else to do with himself?
ReplyDeleteIt's what he does, it's what he enjoys.
DeleteI bailed on Willie after Phases and Stages (1974). I still listen to that a lot. Sorry, Willie has sucked since the mid to late 1970's.
ReplyDeleteWillie who?
