He'd have built a proper support for that A/C unit, but have you seen the cost of lumber lately?
The difference of course, is today's crap can't or is made not to go the distance
A couple screw in hooks into wood joists in the ceiling and some string, easy.
One of the problems with 'getting by engineering' is it will (probably) need redoing when it's really needed...
The condensation drip from the air conditioner is going to ruin the upholstery on that chair.
Perhaps a piece of plastic can extend the life of the chair's upholstery
