John Deere has laid off even more workers - at the same time it is moving more of its tractor and farming gear manufacturing to Mexico.
The agricultural giant on Wednesday informed officials in Iowa that 103 employees - 34 in Dubuque and 69 in Waterloo- are being laid off in the state immediately.
Juan Queere,
ReplyDeleteI hope tariffs eat their lunch
Wouldn't happen if they hadn't stolen the election. FBI bite me.
ReplyDeleteI despise company's that became huge on the backs of Americans, then bugged out for the sake of greed.
ReplyDeleteI equally despise the part labor unions played in that.
CC
I wouldn't put too much of it on the union. UAW's been very weak negotiating contracts for the rank n file. Last two contracts were the first time in decades that any wage increases were made. The first one was an annual .60/hr pay increase. ($3.60 over the life of a 6 year contract) The last one was a 10% raise with 5% bumps on the 3rd and 5th year. So imagine a $24/hr job become a $26.40 to $27.72 to finally 29.10.
DeleteBenefits are slowly eroding, too.
Labor's not really the problem here, at least not at the grunt level.

The 'grunts' are the ones chosing the union leadership. Costs of labor are only a small part of all the union problems.
DeleteMaytag did the same thing to Galesburg,Illinois.
ReplyDeleteSee also: Levi Strauss.
DeleteAnd Electrolux did it in Webster City Iowa

We contracted to remove some machinery that was sold at auction when the place closed. NOT ONE piece of equipment in that place went to Mexico. What didn't sell at auction was scrapped.
There are people committing suicide over this. There was a big meeting last Wednesday I believe and employees were told if they didn't show up, they would automatically be terminated. They are offering a nice severance package though.
ReplyDeleteSeemed like the majority who got axed were white and male.

Isn't Tyson foods doing something similar like ditching American workers and replacing them with illegals?
ReplyDeleteThey closed the meatpacking (poultry) plant in Pleasantville, moved the work to Kentucky and hired a bunch of border crossers at crap wages and benefits (if any)
Delete-lg
They've been doing that for awhile.
DeleteJuan Deere.
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteJust got back from WallyWorld. They are trying to sell JD t-shirts for $25. Yea right.
ReplyDeleteJpaul
John Deere has issues with crappy products that are practically impossible to repair. Rust is a serious problem with their steel and the computers that run everything on their products is shit....
ReplyDeleteJD
More like a 1,000 salaried employees were let go on Wednesday based on the change in badge access to the buildings.
ReplyDeleteAGCO is doing the same thing along with other Major Agricultural Manufacturers. AGCO is planing on moving several Production lines from the Midwest to Mexico with more ‘realignment’ to come and it’s not just manufacturing. Much of their ‘High cost’ salaried workers will be replaced by workers in India.
ReplyDeleteThink on this..... It's easier, safer, more predictable to deal with Mexican cartels than American regulatory agencies,American judicial system, American political system .
