Social-emotional learning (SEL) has been in vogue in education circles for decades. Following its precepts, teachers, counselors, and administrators encourage students to look inward and focus on their feelings. The result?
A generation of young people who can’t stop thinking about their emotions, leaving them incredibly fragile. But that’s not what many of the experts will tell you.
As the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning explains:
Why is ANY CHILD being willingly handed over to the criminals who run the gulag of government monopoly day prisons at this point? Mass child abuse? Seriously, how many more stories will it take before you do WHATEVER IT TAKES to keep your precious child OUT of their clutches?
ReplyDeleteThere are a few easy cures for this social malady. 1- Nuclear global war. 2- A Meteor the size of Australia and traveling at 25,000 mph smacking down on Kansas.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand, the Department of education ran trails in the 60's, comparing the results of various educational philosophies. "Direct Instruction" was the winner. They evaluated self-confidence, knowledge, and one other criteria I don't remember. Direct instruction was the winner by a mile in every category.
ReplyDeleteAnd then they buried the results because it wouldn't be fair to the other philosophies.
No, seriously, that's what they did. You think you hate public schools enough, but you don't.

DOE was formed in 1980
DeleteThank you jimy Carter you asshole.
Delete30+ years ago, was on a ski lift in Aspen. Two young "dudes" were discussing a friend that just got a job teaching "self-esteem" in the LA Schools. I was incredulous but kept my trap shut. So, it's been around a long time. Sadly.
ReplyDeleteMoer child abuse. Power tools.
ReplyDeleteWhat "involved parenting" looks like.

>There are those who claim that SEL is not all bad. They argue that many of the programs parading around as SEL are just doing it wrong and that an evidence-based SEL program can help students learn to manage their emotions and perform well in academic disciplines.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds a lot like what is said about Socialism. "We just need to keep doing it until we get it right." Which will be NEVER! Most concerning with that approach is the damage that's being done until the magic happens.
SEL is also the sort of bunk program that contributes to the pussyfication of America by promoting feelings over facts and reality. What should be taught is that we have to balance our emotions and logic, that for most of us they are inextricable. That when making decisions to lean to the side of logic. To believe your heart (and gut), but ignore the voice of logic at the risk of your own peril.
The entire DOE Indoctrination and Propaganda Ministry needs to be abolished. There is no "education" going on in public schools. We the public are responsible for this through apathy and a lack of outrage over what has slowly been done to our children. We've created a generation or two of whining, sniveling, ignorant, leftist, America hating shitbirds. They will be the end of this republic when they vote themselves and the rest of us into servitude.
ReplyDeleteSo that explains the Millennial generation’s constant whining about “it’s all about me and my feelings..!!”
ReplyDeleteThis is a feature, not a bug. Government Education is and has been a psychological control method since, at least, the 1950s
ReplyDeleteGovernment education was always intended to be an instrument of psychological control. It's in the basic design. Seriously, go read "the underground history of American education" or anything else by John Taylor Gatto. It was what they SET OUT TO DO, and they did a damn fine job of it.
DeleteThat's why so many good teachers burn out fighting against the system. It's stacked against them and always will be.

The touchy, feeley, abort it or cut your junk off style of education really leaves a lot to be desired. Ill bet people will be ready to go back to teaching to the test stuff soon.
