“What we think is happening and what some law enforcement officials have told us is that when the economy is having a rough time and people are having a rough time some of these thieves will turn to theft and they will specifically focus on copper because the cost of copper is up right now,” said David Faggard, a spokesperson for Kinetic.

No, what you have happening is dope fiends are stealing your copper wiring for drugs.
I mean, I appreciate your efforts to blame it on Bidenomics, but this shit's been going on for decades, even when Trump was president. Tweekers don't give a shit about politics.
well, it is the only way they will upgrade the wiring. moved to the hills of pa in 2018 and got Windstream for phone and internet. service was bad to say the least. found out later that the line was installed back in 1987 with no upgrades in all of the time that past.
ReplyDeletehave Comcast now and it is a bit better. but still the idea of cutting the trees back from the line seems like something they have no idea how to do(??)
Every time the wind gets over 20 mph around here, the lines go out . yup. at least once or
twice every storm.
Go with Starlink. Save money and have uninterrupted service.
DeleteHad a big problem down here on the peninsula, where there’s still a lot of agriculture. The pivot irrigators have a very heavy copper cable running the entire length. Battery powered Sawzalls made it easy to steal the whole thing. Cut the connections at each set of wheels and drag the thing out with a truck.

"...some of these thieves will turn to theft". So, they were already thieves.
ReplyDeleteBoss Hogg is the mastermind of this racket. But accuses the Duke Boys of it.
ReplyDeleteSince there's little scarcity in Aluminum maybe they should just replace the Copper wire with Aluminum wire. That worked great in house wiring about 55 years ago.
ReplyDeleteTheives were stealing copper gutters off churches in the Detroit area back in the early 70s. Too bad, the patinaed finish was a nice look.
ReplyDeleteAluminum is not longer used in residential due to safety concerns… it arcs too easily and causes fires…it’s still used in commercial projects, but only for primary feeds from transformers to panels, not for distribution to outlets or lighting
ReplyDeleteThe dumbasses in Atlanta, several years ago, were pulling the fiberoptic cables that served the I-75/I-85/I-258 traffic cameras out of the ground. The DoT even had to put up signs pleading for the non-copper cables to not be yanked out of the ground.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing to give a tweaker is ground up rat-poison.
Why doesn't the law go after those buying it? If there is no market there is no motive,
