Jungle warfare was perfected by the North Vietnamese. From their hidden tunnel cities, the Viet Cong launched operations that were terrifying in their ingenuity, savagery, and persistence.
Good flick. So many of us could tell so many stories. I don't think America or the protestors had a clue what the American soldier was facing on a daily basis. It was a damn hard place to stay alive.
The VC and NVA were good at their job, but the Australian forces in Vietnam were even better, and beat them into submission.
For a good example, Google for the battle of Long Tan in 1966, where a company of Australian infantry with a battery of Kiwi 105s in support fought off an NVA reinforced regiment estimated at around 2000+ strong.
Disclaimer: ex Australian infantryman here, so I may be talking my own book.

ReplyDeleteFolks re-enact NVA and VC in Northern Virginia: https://www.reenactor.net/index.php?page=111. Make of it what you will.

Its almost like people who grew up in the jungle are good at living in the jungle.
