The company’s CEO announced last week during an earnings call that it had already lowered the cost of 7,200 items, The Associated Press reported. It offered rollbacks on the items, including 35% more discounts year-to-year for food, CNBC reported.

  1. Reminds of an old farmer joke about losing a dollar on every bushel sold but making it up in volume of sales.

    1. Your joke reminds me of the farmer who won the lottery.
Somebody asked the farmer how he was going to spend all that loot, and he said he'd just keep farming until it was all gone.

  3. I was just in local WM, and noticed the signs. One that I remember is Diet Ginger Ale, name brand, reduced to $1.67, a big reduction. However Eggs here in CO are way up again.

  6. Another way to do this is shrink-flation. Many packaged cheeses have reduced the weight from 16 oz to 14 oz. I mean, come on, how many recipes call for 14 ounces of cheese; most of my recipes call for an even pound. And pre-packaged cheese slices are so thin that they tear into shreds as you try to separate them. Must be that "best economy ever".

  7. Take it from a retailer, it's not for your benefit. They're inventory heavy in the 3rd quarter. And the fourth quarter purchase commitments are coming in. They need cash flow and warehouse space. Not to mention upcoming inventory taxes.
