  1. I got some thumpins when I was 12 Y.O. mostly from my mother, but she was smart enough to wait till we got home even in the 1950s when it was customary to smack gids in public.

  2. Nothing wrong with a good paddling when it's warranted. Normally, all my dad had to do was stare and give a short lecture. Depression era WW2 vet that was a great and loving father, but you did NOT want to piss him off! This though, seems to have gone over the top with what seems to be some major familial dysfunction. As my brother used to say, "Looks like they put the funk in dysfunction!"

  3. I could see when my kid was getting ready to do some stupid shit in the super market. I'd grab her arm, lean down a whisper in her ear, you aren't getting ready to embarrass our family are you? She would say no! I'd say I knew you wouldn't do that. It was hard for the lil shit. Other kids running around wide open and she wanted to play too.

  4. My dad would raise his hand and say "Don't get smart with me." That's all it took.
