Inflation Rate Inches Down as Economy Continues to Slow

Inflation fell in August amid fears of an economic slowdown following two straight months of disappointing job gains, according to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) release on Wednesday.

The consumer price index (CPI), a broad measure of the price of everyday goods, increased 2.5% on an annual basis in August and rose 0.2% month-over-month, compared to a 2.9% year-over-year rate in July, according to the BLS. Core CPI, which excludes the volatile categories of energy and food, rose 3.2% year-over-year in August, compared with 3.2% in July.

  3. What amazes me is that sheeple think prices will go down if TPTB say inflation is going down. Idiots! The word 'inflation' should explain it all.

  7. When Biden entered office, gas prices quickly rose to almost double, roughly $5 where I live. If Kamala gets in office, you'll wish gas cost only $5 a gallon.

  8. What the hell good is an inflation stat that leaves OUT energy and food prices? You might buy a house or a car once a decade or so. But you have to eat and get around erry dang day. I am far more interested in the price of meat and gasoline than I am in what a second home might run me.

    1. Social Security cost of living adjustment is tied to the 'official inflation rate' so the Dems are very happy to exclude any real indicator of out-of-control inflation.
