Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris - Full Concert - Real Live Roadrunning (14.11.2006)

Well worth the time to watch or listen to.

While I've always like Emmylou's music, the third song, Red Dirt Girl, is one of my favorites and has been since it first came out. It was one of those few songs I instantly liked. Now it's almost 25 years later and I still have the same reaction I had the first time I heard it - I just stop what I'm doing and get lost in the song. If you'll listen to or check out the lyrics HERE, you'll see it's a seriously sad song, but it's beautifully done.

  2. I've always thought that the song identifies someone we all know. Somewhere we have all met that girl named Lillian.

  5. Good call on the Red Dirt Girl. I had never heard it before. Of course, her voice is amazing. I have a few of her CD's and love listening to her sing. I will listen to this video later while I am doing other activities.

    1. I've heard several singers cover it throughout the years, but I like Emmylou's rendition better, and this version with Mark Knopfler is the best I've heard.

  6. My opinion, but I think Knopfler is the most underrated guitarist.

  7. Emmylou is a national treasure. I defy you to listen to that song she wrote - with a little help from Guy Clark - about her father called "Bang the Drum Slowly" without the room getting all dusty.

  8. I have the DVD/CD combo set. I usually skip Red Dirt Girl, the story it tells is just too sad, having tears in your eyes when driving is not good.
I fell in love with Emmylou Harris when I saw The Last Waltz where she joins The Band to sing Evangeline.
