State Fair of Texas is sued by Attorney General Ken Paxton over new rule banning guns on premises

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to block a ban on firearms at the State Fair of Texas, one of the state's biggest annual celebrations.

Fair organizers earlier this month announced a ban on guns after a shooting last year on the 277-acre (112-hectare) fairgrounds in the heart of Dallas. The move drew swift criticism from Republican state lawmakers, who have proudly expanded gun rights in recent years. Paxton, a Republican, threatened to sue if the ban was not repealed.

  1. Stay strapped or get clapped. There's a reason for a "single" shooting, folks won't FA & FO!

    1. Yup, he and Dan Patrick are both D sucking rinos. Patrick was a conservative radio host based out of Houston, 700 am, before he was elected.

  3. Just wait until they come out the gates like in Minnesota.

Or they rush the gates, or shut down traffic... Just stay away from crowds with ANY chocolate in the milk.

  4. A friend was a Dallas police officer and regularly did duty at the fair. She'd guard one of the gates and keep anyone out that didn't have a ticket. She said the gang bangers would come by after the fair was closed for the night, put knives and guns in a bush through the fence, and retrieve them the next day. There were too many places to hide the weapons for the force to find them. The only people disarmed were the law abiding patrons. When the fair allowed concealed carry permit holders to enter the fair armed, nothing happened. It makes you wonder why they decided to stop allowing concealed carry. I haven't been since my older daughter was in High School, probably 40 years ago. We were in line for one of the rides on the Midway when one of the nearby residents turned to my daughter and said "What are you doing here white bitch? I'll cut your ass." We left. Doing or even saying something would have ended badly for us. The attackers would have simply fled.

  5. "...........a ban on guns after a shooting last year on the 277-acre fairgrounds..........."

Was there a shooting on the Fairgrounds because legal guns were allowed, or was there only ONE shooting because legal guns were allowed?

  6. Anything that involves monies STOLEN from the taxpayers, or subsidized by the taxpayers, etc. MUST respect the freedoms of ALL taxpayers. Any private entity MUST maintain the right to do with their property as THEY see fit. Sorry, you can't play ALL sides of the issues. Be honest about your banning of guns and let the chips fall where they will. Boycott the fair, let management know EXACTLY why you are not attending, and watch them change policy. In all honesty, I can't imagine that some stolen tax dollars are NOT involved in this annual event, so their so-called "private business" pretense goes out the window. It is a slippery slope. We ALLOWED the government to dictate business policies back in the mid 60s with seriously twisted "interstate commerce" BS, and now look at how private businesses are impacted with regards to their rights. We cannot allow gun laws to be another camel's nose into this tent.

  7. Sue? That's kinda chicken, no?

Preventing people from exercising their civil rights on public property is a crime, as is conspiring or attempting to do so. The AG should simply have had the criminals who are attempting to block legal gun use arrested and charged with those crimes.
