The Assassination of John Tunstall : The Lincoln County War Begins

VIDEO HERE  (13:40 minutes)

Few stories throughout the history of the Old West have been as impactful, and everlasting as the Lincoln County War.  It is equal parts an examination of the economic, political, and legal landscape of the territory days.  What truly sets it apart are the characters that drove the conflict forward.

Sheriff Brady ruled Lincoln through brute force whenever needed, and those aligned with him gained preferential treatment in all their dealings.  This hierarchical structure would be challenged with the arrival of Alexander McSween and John Tunstall.  McSween, a lawyer by trade and John’s elder by 17 years teamed up with the ambitious young Brit who had his eyes on gaining wealth in the developing mountain community.

John Tunstall and Alexander McSween would get far more than they bargained for when they pressed against the old guard of Lincoln.  McSween’s coy play to withhold an Insurance Settlement that was laid claim by J.J. Dolan’s “The House” Dry Goods and Supply store was the final straw that unleashed hell upon Lincoln County for three years.

John Tunstall would be the first casualty in the war, but he would be far from the last….
