Ok, I gotta ask. I don't get the Chinese restaurants as synagogues reference. Are there a bunch of Chinese Jews, or what exactly am I missing? Never been to Jersey, so my knowledge of its more nuanced cultural quirks is clearly lacking.
Big Ruckus, The central NJ area around Bound Brook I lived in had lots of Chinese restaurants that offered lots of food, cheap. A few even offered a Kosher menu.
The Jewish-Chinese Restaurant thing is due to two two things.
1 is lots of city Jews don't, due to religious beliefs, work on their Sabbath, as that's against the rules. So therefore, Chinese food.
2 is all the Christian holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, that most restaurants used to be closed on because, well, Christian holiday. So, therefore, Chinese food.
It's more of a New York City, New Jersey cities type of thing than flyover country type of thing.
It's California so even if he's an illegal alien he'll be back on the street before the next batch of tacos come out of the oven.
ReplyDeleteTacos in the oven? Where in the fuck are you from, Jersey?

DeleteYup, Joisey where you go to the shore, the pizza comes in slices and the Chinese restaurants double as synagogues

NJ's the part of the country even NYC doesn't want
ReplyDeleteY’all getting way off track. Where’s the usual banter about what to do with the spick? He looks like he could hide some tacos though
