I've heard of guys using a double paper bag and sunglasses too. Though that was in china for actual consistent production!
I don't know if a cellphone camera would even work long term. I'd think the light would be bright enough to damage it, though I really don't know. Mostly I don't think it could compensate enough to get a good picture. You notice he's not welding continuously? I think he can't, the phone won't give a usable picture when there is an arc.
#8- I worked in shipping and receiving a few years at my old job. That is no doubt not an over the road trucker, but a local guy. Or girl. The long trip truckers tended to take forever to back into the loading dock.
I once saw a long-haul guy back into a dock on a busy street at the old Hills Brothers coffee plant along the embarcadero in San Francisco. He did a great job, jack-knifing into a dock on his blind side in a long wheelbase truck with a sleeper. It couldn't have been done any better. When he climbed out of the cab I noticed he only had one arm. It a was very impressive. Some guys have a knack for backing a trailer, others don't.
That's not 'stitch welding'... That's 'Tack Stacking'. Ugly but adequate for sheet metal. Verboten on anything with a serious structural load, unless specified as a sacrificial 'break point'. A stitch weld would have a call akin to '1/4" fillet, 4-on-12" ', where the first part is size/profile, and the second part is length and spacing.
#8 - There was a Farmer John plant in Vernon, CA on Soto St. where the drivers had to jackknife into the end dock with the tractor parked in the right hand lane. Impressive.

DeleteHow about a link?
Delete@John G., it's stitch welding. Reduces heat distortion. As for burning out the camera's ccd, it's a work phone.
