  1. While I'm sure he didn't want to die, if only one of them was going to make, he would have wanted it to be his grandson. If I could have traded places when my grandson was killed, I would have in a heartbeat.

    1. My sympathies to you and yours. It is never a good thing to have to bury one of those who are meant to carry on your legacy. My brother lost a daughter at age 21, on my mom's birthday in an auto accident. He and his wife will of course never get over it.

  4. Dying in ones sleep would be good but I believe this a better way to go.

  7. This is what men do. This is how a man dies. It's sad, but it's also proper, because for him to live while his grandson died would be a terrible burden for him to bear.

I have no doubt that he is happy that he sacrificed himself that his grandson might live.

I also have no doubt that he's in Valhalla right night, along with all the other heroes. If I had to choose a way to go, that would be it.

    1. These are my thoughts exactly LWSCHP. A fitting testament to the toxic masculinity that men are currently vilified and disparaged for. Godspeed to this fine example of a man.

  11. I hope that grandson understands his Grampa willingly did what he did and would do it again to give that boy his shot at this world and doesn't feel guilty for needing the rescue that killed his beloved Grampa.

  12. There are plenty of worse ways to shuffle off this mortal coil....giving your life to save your grandchild is a sacrifice virtually anyone would gladly make.
