NAPLES, Fla. (WBBH) – A newly released recording shows a Burmese python swallowing an entire deer. Biologists said it’s evidence of something larger going on across Florida.
Ian Bartoszek and Ian Easterling, biologists with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, partnered with the University of Cincinnati to learn more about how invasive Burmese pythons are affecting the local ecosystem.
Open wide. The mandibles of snakes remain unfused. Instead, stretchy ligaments bind these moveable pieces of a snake's jaw in place.
ReplyDeleteEvidence of what?
ReplyDeleteWhat's a mystery to me is Florida has an open season on these pests, but they have to be 'humanely' killed.
ReplyDeleteWTF is this 'humanely' b.s.? Just kill the f#@kin things.

Hmmm, well a few of these could cut down on the illegal cockroach infestation in Florida

Palmetto bugs would eat them.
DeleteWhy not shoot that one that had a 77lb deer in it's mouth?

Had some tasty alligator creole down in Florida years ago. If python's as good, I'd try it.
Delete77 pounds is full-sized?
ReplyDeleteWhole or field-dressed?
Here in Michigan, 77 pounds whole is not unusual for a young adult deer, although quite small to hunt. It probably would not have antlers sufficient to qualify for a buck tag, but there are also antlerless tags. Every good hunter I knew would let one that small grow a few more years before taking a shot at it, but I expect a python would go for the less difficult kill.
