  1. lol, when I taught my kids how to parallel park I set up plastic trash cans in front of our house and I drank beers while they practiced at it. We used a jeep, not a big ass pickup. We both had some laughs everytime they hit the other "car" and it didn't take long for them to get the knack of how to do it.

My daughters very first lesson included some trivial 4WD because I took a wrong turn on some back roads. That was good fun too.

I also took them up on the freeway pretty early and had them go fast because it's actually one of the safest places - everyone's going in one direction at a uniform speed and all you have to do is steer in your lane. Go fast at the same speed and don't be an impediment.

Wish I'd had a manual transmission. I didn't get to teach them that.

    1. I learned to drive in a '71 Beetle - stick - 16 foot long car.
Georgia required parallel parking as part of the driving test in early 80s.
In a 26 foot spot. I could have pulled in straight and successfully parked.

  2. That's exactly how I taught both of mine, less the cussing. Well, not much cussing, anyway. Proudest day of my life was riding with my 18 year old daughter and some lady cut her off and we both said at the same time, "You stupid bitch!" Still brings a tear to my eye. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, I guess.
