That's it, trust those seals and hoses

  1. They have never seen what happens when a hose quits under load. I have a 545 Ford backhoe and I have.. In the almost twenty years of running it I saw what happens, several times. It's quick. A lousy 25 cent ORing gives up and it's coming down.
People who gut under a car without a jack stand are crazy, too.

    1. Yep. No warning and red goo. But it almost never happens....until it does. Then the manufacturer, the maintenance shop, and the construction company get sued. Personally, I'd make operator negligence an absolute defense against any suit (like this shown here). Liability stops with the negligent (including the idiots who joined him).

  9. Nope, worst that will happen is they get sprayed with hydraulic oil. For years now, excavators, backhoes, etc, have a valve that'll activate and prevent any sudden drop inthe boom in the event of a hose leak.

    1. That would be for Boom Down. This would essentially be Boom Up. Is there a velocity fooze in both hoses? 'quiring minds wanna know!

  11. 1990, Sacramento.
Hose broke on a garbage truck.
Hydraulic fluid carved a significant gouge in a concrete wall.
Appropriately applied, that level of pressure would decapitate a human.

Like a light saber from Star Wars, but juicier.
