Reminds me of stuff I witnessed while doing consulting work at an OEM plant, where a new engine assembly line was being built. Union labor was used and it was discovered that a union electrian has connected a 240 volt line to a 24 volt motor. You can guess how long that motor lasted. The other instance, which involved a machine that heated crankshaft journals and then quenched them. This machine used a large amount of coolant, which flowed through maybe 6 inch pipes, which in turn were joined by a ring of bolts at the joints. Union pipefitters did that work. When all was assembled and the machine started for a trial run, coolant sprayed from the pipe connections as the union pipefitters hadn't bothered to tighten the bolts down . So when I hear or read about union labor, I think of this.
My 25 year old daughter is a union electrician and I'll stack up her work ethic and ability against anyone here. She belongs to the union because she has to for where she works. She does comment on the absolute slackers she has to work with though and isn't very impressed by the vast majority of workers 30 years and younger regardless whether they are electricians, pipefitters, millwrights, operators or what have you.
By the way, she's single, attractive, conservative valued, loves the outdoors and shooting, fun and easy to be around. She has natural hair color, isn't pierced all over and if it matters has no tats.
She does have a few negatives for a lot of guys, she has very high standards, she doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, doesn't do drugs, doesn't party and this is way to much info, she is waiting until she is married.
If you're in her age group, in the PNW and think you would measure up I'll pass on your contact info.
She doesn't have one more kind of negative, she would expect you to pass muster with me as well.
damn, didn't intend to turn this into a personal ad.
Wes- Sounds like a daughter to be proud of- I hope she finds someone worthy of her love and respect. I also have an intelligent, beautiful 25 year old daughter- my biggest fear is that she'll hook up with some loser and ruin her life- she's already had a few near-bozo experiences- fingers crossed!
2 no works.

ReplyDeleteThe contractor made a slight miscalculation: You need TEN union workers to hook up a 24 volt motor to 240 volts power. Do the math.
DeleteYou actually need 20 union workers for when the first ten go on break- union rules!

If I was 40-50 years younger I'd take you up on the offer.

DeleteThey'll go on strike tomorrow asking for a large-screen TV. Plus cable of course.
