A woman from Sacramento County says she was scammed out of $100,000 from a cryptocurrency scam.
The woman, who only wants to be identified as Leah, said the scam lasted for several months as a person claiming to be an investor gained her trust, encouraging her to invest in cryptocurrency.
I use LinkedIn and was an early adopter. It is the only social media that connects me to a large group of folks that I have long friendships with. My last two jobs, including the job that brought me to TN, were obtained directly using contacts I had in LinkedIn and would not have happened had I not been on the platform. I don't live on it and the platform is not as useful as it was when I was actively employed, but it has been useful to me.
ReplyDeleteyep. Doesn't need to be a security risk.
DeleteI worked in cybersecurity for a defence contractor, and one of the best things I did was banning employees from having LinkedIn accounts.
ReplyDeleteLinkedIn is just a way of getting chumps to do the initial targeting work normally conducted by foreign intelligence services and criminals.
A LinkedIn account is a big flashing sign saying "Here's all my personal details, please steal my identity, rob me and compromise me".
But that HR person in Big Defense will not understand if you don't have a LinkedIn page.
DeleteI use LinkedIn for my work. I started getting these requests to "linkedin" with beautiful Asian women. Reading their bio, they all basically had the same MO. I found it fun to play along, then they wanted to go to another platform, WhatsAp, Telegram, etc. Many times their name changed, because their Linkedin had been hacked. Most had an Uncle who was a crypto expert or something along those lines. I enjoyed "playing" along. I would ask tough questions and they would disappear. I mean, conversation everything disappeared. Never trust anyone you don't know...

One should never do business with someone you cannot jump across a desk and choke.
ReplyDeleteLinkedIn, another product from our friends at Microsoft.

Stupid should hurt. In this case, 100k was the price for being stupid. At least she won't be able to donate any of that money to Chlamydia Harris, which I guarantee was in her plans.

At first glance, does this seem a little short on substance?
