How dare you defend yourself?

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Police say a clerk who was robbed in a convenience store stickup now faces charges of assaulting the suspects.

Investigators say Domonic Ali-Koarti, 34, was behind the counter at the Shell Station on Williston Road in South Burlington last week when two juveniles robbed the store at gunpoint.

  1. Mr. Ali-Koarti shows why it's good to know the law of defensive use of a firearm.

    1. exactly. Once they left, they weren't a threat.

"He followed them outside" is the kicker. After that, the use of Deadly Force is no longer viable.

    2. Indeed, that is the law. After they've used deadly force on you, have turned and are leaving they are no longer a threat to you. Maybe to the guy in front of them, maybe when they come back in a week, or rob the store down the road. Really- we need to reexamine our law on this matter. Once someone has demonstrated they are willing to use deadly force the assumption must be they are willing to use it at any time and in any direction against anyone.

  2. Well, we sure don't want the criminals to experience adverse consequences.

  5. It was once the common belief among people in general, and even turned up in sermons, that a failure to defend innocent life, including one's own, was a sin. You must defend your family, help your neighbor if thugs attack him, and a failure to defend one's own life was thought tantamount to the sin of suicide. Willfully being unable to do so would be part and parcel of such a sin, and would mark one as not just a coward but as contributing to evil.

  6. The people that condone this type of action against a victim aren't worthy of breathing our air. Then again, it's Vermont, the idiots that vote in Bernie Sanders.
