Yeah, we used to find this at grade school in SC in the 60s, but we knew what it was. Civil War bullets and petrified shark's teeth were our treasures.
Bass Lake in California has tons of pyrite. My kids thought it was awesome. We always came home with a couple of 20 Oz soda bottles filled with sand and pyrite.

Dad did some amature prospecting toting me along. I always like the way pyrite looked and didn't care that it wasn't worth spit.
ReplyDeletePyrite crystals are pretty cool. If I'm not finding gold I'd like to be finding the crystals
ReplyDeleteNow, word is that it contains high content of lithium. Not so worthless after all, in the battery powered world we seem to be getting forced into.
ReplyDeleteGot robbed once (I wasn't home). Thief took the pyrite - left the gold sitting next to it.
