    3. Probably a visit to the local ER. Watch those lead ropes especially in aviation and maritime

    4. Thanks for that clarification; it looked staged.

    2. And if he did not die, he probably wished that he did.

    3. The "Daily Dose of Internet" recently featured this clip and said it's trained pro's doing a stunt.

    4. #1 I suspect it was staged. No one was in the gondola which is very odd, someone should be at the burner controls when inflating, and he appears to be wearing a Swiss seat which is used by mountain climbers not balloonists. The reddit link from Bad Attitude has the same red-white striped balloon on a grassy field while the gif is on pavement.
#8 That's an old gif, I think it saw it 20 years ago. If the engine is running when the prop strikes the ground, the crankshaft will be damaged and the crankcases might be cracked at the mounts so a dead-stick landing minimizes engine damage. Normally you land on the grass, it's much less abrasive than asphalt.

  3. my dad ran a concrete crew. you have no idea how many times I seen morons do just that.
honest to GOD. I used one of them at the age of 12. sure beat mixing it by hand !
that was dad's idea of summer vacation. it wasn't till later on in life did I realize what he had done for me by doing that. although I didn't think so at the time.
water, then stone. followed by sand. then you add the cement and mix until a even color
too much water and you have a mess. same deal if you add too little .
from the look of it, he didn't add enough water and it sticking to the sides.

    1. He snagged the shovel in the beater bar. Seen it happen plenty of times with newbies. I'm surprised #2 guy didn't get a bell ringer.

  4. #8 looks like it was a deliberate power off landing - neither prop was rotating and one looked as though it had been moved to the position of least damage to prop, hub, and crankshaft. Maybe a failure of the hydraulics in the landing gear.
I only ever flew little trainers but some friends had more complex aircraft. Some of the smaller twins were apparently pretty darn dangerous in a one engine out scenario ie.you’d only have a few seconds to pull power off, feather the dead prop and re-trim or you were going to lose control.

    4. Yep. You have engine out on a twin piston engine twin you have a very narrow window to resolve the issue. Twin turbine and jets can fly on one pretty well. Not so much on pistons.

    5. I think it's failed landing gear. Once the runway is made, he pulled all 6 levers back to stop the engine and feather the props.

It's the difference between replacing some skin and some blades with a prop overhaul and in engine inspection versus totaling both engines and both props if he left them running.

The props and engines are probably worth more than the airframe itself, depending on the age of the airframe.

    6. If your landing no gear you shut down engine to avoid a prop strike under power, trying to save the motor.

    7. I would have opted for the grass between the runways.
