I'm a Travelin' Man

A Wyoming man with dementia who wandered away from home and hitchhiked to Salt Lake City is safe after his wife spotted him in a TV news segment about helping those in need.

Ninety-one-year-old Michael Black ended up at Rescue Mission of Salt Lake, over 200 miles (320 kilometers) away from the couple’s home in Afton in western Wyoming’s Star Valley.

He was just out seeing the sights. He may not remember what he saw, but by gum, he saw 'em.

I'm making light of it because it turned out well, but I can only imagine what his wife was going through. I imagine she was worried sick.

    1. My friend's wife did just that after he wandered away for 48 hours.

    2. That was my thought also. Although, a person ravaged by dementia may fish it out of their pocket and toss it not knowing what it is

  4. I imagine it's pretty chilly out there right about now, and possibly some snow, so it's good he was found safe..

    2. That ststement applies to the majority of dementia free, clear minded American senior citizen tourists who take a 2 week bus tour of Europe.

  6. Good thing he didn't have to go through a Democrat run city to get where he was. Probably would've has a different ending.

  8. Old feller bought the farm a week after he got home. What I like about the story is how regular folks came together. There is good in that.

  9. Worked in the oil/gas fields in that neck of the woods. NOT a great time of the year to try hitchhiking in Wyo and eastern UT. He could easily have stayed missing until next spring. Glad they found him!
