Your Tuesday Morning Florida Report

A state appeals court Tuesday said a man can face a charge of carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon after police discovered he was carrying a machete at an Orlando Walmart.

A three-judge panel of the 6th District Court of Appeal overturned an Orange County circuit judge’s ruling that dismissed the charge against Melvin Leon Ivory. Circuit Judge Kevin Weiss ruled in December 2023 that prosecutors couldn’t establish a case of carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon because the machete “was not being used or carried in a dangerous or threatening manner.”

  1. I'm surprised it wasn't pointed out that Walmart owned the knives. Therefore they were not his. He was just carrying them around in the store. Plus he should be able to sue Walmart for displaying them when they know they have felons in the store.
