WASHINGTON (Reuters) -A U.S. auto safety agency said on Friday it is reconsidering a landmark rule from the administration of former President Joe Biden requiring nearly all new cars and trucks by 2029 to have advanced automatic emergency braking systems.

Would be nice to go back to a simple affordable car that doesn't spy on you.
ReplyDeleteRight agreed with anon. Want a car or truck roll down windows heat ac and am fm radio life would be almost perfect
ReplyDeleteMy wife's car has this, although it can be turned off. When left on, the sensors will occasionally mistake a car in the other lane as being in our lane and JAM on the brakes hard, right up to the point that the anti-lock starts to pulse to prevent loss of control, then it decides that no emergency braking is required and lets off the brakes just as fast. Imagine just cruising down the interstate at 70, enjoying the scenario, and then whammo hard brake for no reason. Everyone in the car is startled, some have even shit their pants, the wife blames me, and all for what?
ReplyDeleteThe article says this move could save up to 360 lives a year. I'd gladly sacrifice 360 random people a year just to remove this from our existing car. I'm damn glad my truck doesn't have it.
I agree with you: an other attempt by the left to kill more people.
DeleteA better fix would be to FORBID tailgating, forcing the tailgater to slow down.
Don't forget though that all those rules the left comes up with are targeting idiots that should not be on the road in the first place, the lowest common denominator: themselves.
I don't agree with sacrificing 360 random people. Make it 360 random democrats and I'll consider it. Make it 360 donk politicians and we have a deal.
DeleteVehicles are designed to get the occupants from point-A to point-B as efficiently and safely as possible. They are not designed to get the occupants there as fast as possible. Unfortunately, the weak link in the motoring chain is the human so maybe there is a case for this EBS.
ReplyDeleteNo there's not
DeleteSemis have had this for awhile. It will sling you thru the windshield. I told the company finally, either do away with it or I would leave. Half the drivers did the same. They would not back down, so they lost half their drivers in one day. BTW we were all hazmat. After that the rest of the drivers quit in the space of two weeks. They had to shut down operations.
ReplyDeleteI flat out will never buy a car with automatic braking, steering or throttle; I'm the driver, not a chip from China.
ReplyDelete"NHTSA said the rule will save at least 360 lives annually and prevent at least 24,000 injuries as traffic deaths spiked after the pandemic."
ReplyDeleteDid it occur to anyone at the nhtsa that there were also busloads of illegals with no driver skills flooding the country?
That might've had a little something to do with that spike.

The insurance companies sure figured it out.

This is like other automatic systems that are more likely to cause problems or worse. Like “lane assist” if you had to swerve to avoid someone the steering will fight against you if this is on. Or that stupid automatic engine shut off timer.
ReplyDeleteI almost forgot the worst problem. Next urban BLM riot or a car jacker just steps in front of your car. It stops automatically when the correct response is to floor the gas pedal.
ReplyDeleteThis is a self-propagating problem- "safety" features are added which make peoples driving skills worse, which causes more accidents, which prompts a call for more safety features- repeat ad infinitum-
ReplyDeleteBought a 2022 1794 Edition Tundra that had it. Hated it, so traded it in for a 2023 Tacoma t4x4 that doesn't.
