Its uses are vast and varied, but its risks are greater than some understand. It has been embroiled in politics and even war. It is, perhaps, the most interesting pharmaceutical in history.
I didn't watch the video yet, but I recall hearing that if Aspirin were to be discovered today it would be a prescription drug, requiring a doctor's approval before using.
A popular urban myth. ASA (aspirin) clearly has indisputable effects that easily meet statistical hurdles. There are very clear mechanisms of action for this NSAID (COX inhibition, etc). It meets the effectiveness standard. It has a well understood tox profile, is safe in surprisingly large quantities (4 g/day), and has a therapeutic index of at least 30 or so (it's probably much higher in a general population), vastly higher than most drugs. Warfarin, widely prescribed, has a TI of <2. It meets the safety standard. If discovered today as a new molecule, it would easily make Rx status and be an almost immediate candidate for OTC conversion, if it didn't go direct to OTC initially. It would almost certainly get expedited review. The new molecules that are hard to approve are the effective ones with low to no obvious immediate toxicity or the ones that work very well but are hard to titrate and maintain inside the therapeutic envelope.
Not much mention of other known side effects. One potential, is ringing in the ears. BC's are my choice if pain is fierce. What do you use? ~ mississloppigarro
With the bird flu in dairies in California, farmers were giving it to the cows. Some wise ass vet observed Aspirin was never labeled for cattle, either with or without prescription. Solution? Remove it entirely from the market. There is none available in farm supply stores, and because it was never labeled for Extra Label Use, vets can't prescribe it either. It used to be cheap, about $9 for 50 bolus. Jerry
I sometimes buy white willow bark at the nature store that has been there in all its purple facade glory for the last 30-40 years and its a medicine like any plastic bottle of shit you buy at Walgreen's. Don’t be blind or naive on purpose.
Water is a chemical. Too much H2O will harm or kill you. Aspirin is just a medicine.
saw a youtube video where you crush some asperin up and dilute it in water. Then spray it on your tomatoes to jump start disease fighting in the plant.
Willow bark is salicylic acid, which can lead to ulcers rather quickly. Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid, basically you add an acetyl group to it. Better stomach tolerance, but easy bleeding either way.

It killed alot of people in the Spanish flu outbreak. The Dr's were giving handfuls to people then they would drown in thier own blood from coughing.

A fool with tool is still a fool.
DeleteI believe I read the American Indian used the willow bark. He didn't mention it but I think it's so.
ReplyDeleteWillow bark was used in Medieval England ( documented), so most likely it was known as a cure everywhere willow grows.
DeleteIt is. The Indians (mostly Eastern Woodland) would take tree bark and make a tea from it.

ReplyDeleteIt would never make it thru the FDA approval process due to the side effects.
DeleteTylenol made it through the FDA, and it's more deadly than aspirin. All it takes is enough $$ to do the tests, and if necessary, lie on the report.

Deletefull title: TYLENOL IS A PHARMA ATROCITY, AND ASPIRIN IS A SUPPRESSED WONDER DRUG
I would have to say that without a doubt, LSD is far more interesting than aspirin.

DeleteWhat pain?
DeleteNo way it could get approved today.

DeleteYou can crush up a couple of aspirin and dump them in a car battery and it will revive it enough to start.
