A Great Dane in Germany is vying to be named the tallest dog in the world.
Ramses weighs about 200 pounds and is a contender for the record of tallest dog.

Huh. That asshole dog Jack weighs in at just under a hundred pounds and he gets by on one of those Moist-n-Meaty packets every morning, a couple doggie bacon strips at night right before bed and whatever scraps he can beg off of me throughout the day, which isn't much.
It's Germany. How many liters of beer does the dog get to wash down those 4 pounds of grub?
ReplyDeleteFour pounds a day?!!
ReplyDeleteYou gotta walk that dog with a scoop shovel!

Sad though. My understanding is among dogs, Great Danes have a relatively short life span.
ReplyDeleteRoger that, Anony, my father in law and his wife (may they rest in peace) LOVED Great Danes, they rarely made it much passed 7 years. They told us it was heartbreaking, but they kept going through it until Betty died of cancer. After that, Dad didn't have anymore dogs.
DeleteI rescue Danes7 to 10 years is the time frame, some of the most majestic canines of the dog world. Just keep your eyes on them, not everyone is a dog person. I’ve never had to purchase one, people get them and after a year or so decide they are no longer wanted. They are extremely loyal and I’ve never had one be aggressive.
DeleteMy neighbor just put down his Great Dane, Diesel, fucking great dog. My female GSD loved him and would dance around him while Diesel would remain stoic just giving her some side eye. Pretty cool.
DeleteAs for what you feed your dog WC, gotta part ways with you here. All of that crap you mentioned is...well crap. I believe when you have an animal you are responsible to provide a diet that is nutritious and is compatible with what that breed eats. Lions and tigers in captivity are fed that way as are giraffes and water hippos. If you had horses you wouldn't feed them any potatoes or garlic or meat or flour products. Dogs are carnivores not omnivores. Yes you can trick their noses into eating all kinds of grains and by products but what they thrive on is meat, raw meat.
Mine eat beef/chicken, wild caught fish, organs and raw eggs. Yes it's a bit more expensive but they're never(hardly ever) sick and I believe you have to factor in a good diet as part of the expense of having a dog. Just as you would with any animal. I spend 20 minutes or so every day preparing the correct diet for my dogs as well as my sassy Scarlet.
And BTW my dog's poops are relatively small without ingesting all of the fillers & by-products.
I feed him what he'll eat. I've dumped way too much raw meat in his bowl only to have him walk around it until I throw it out an hour or two later. He's the only dog I've ever had like that, but that's the way he is and has been since he showed up here.
DeleteAnd yes, canines absolutely are omnivores. Just compare a dog turd to a coyote turd sometime. The coyote's will be chock full of seeds and vegetation they've eaten.
4 lbs of food a day ?? The turds must be massive

Or numerous.
