  1. There was a Reality TV show some years ago that made an absolute mockery of the job of Roughneck. That was incomplete, but accurate in the aspects it covered. It would have been a Lot longer to cover all the bases. I only worked the rigs for three years, but what I just saw was at least honest.

  2. I spent over 20 years pulling slips and tripping pipe... It's hard dirty work and you're away from home most all holidays and birthdays.... It's not for everyone but if you can handle it there's serious money to be made, you'll have to earn it though.... No slackers allowed.

    1. Anon, you are absolutely correct.

When I was in my late teens, I worked one double shift on an oil rig where an uncle was the driller. To me it wasn't worth the hazards and constant noise.

  3. This is what the business looked like in the 80s when I started in Texas. Things are very different now with respect to the downhole tools. The rig floors are mostly automated now, safer and quieter. No more spinning chains. But bits are still used, mud is still pumped, casing is till run and cemented, and rigs are still moved.
