My college roommates grandparents had some horses and he invited us to go riding one day. He gave me the “mean” horse that didn’t like to be ridden. That bastard kept reaching around with his head and biting me on the shins whenever I left some slack in the reins. At one point we were galloping thru a field that had one tree in it. The horse made a beeline for that tree, sideswiped it, and I went flying head over heels backwards off of that horse. That’s the last time I ever rode a horse.
The rider is fortunate that back right leg fired early. To those saying it’s a bad horse, 1 quick question, do you know how it was treated in the stables prior to that run?
When I was about 13 I helped at a Christian Camp that had a stable. I would be tail end when we took kids out on a trail ride. We had good horses & not so good. I would often take Jack, he was the most nsg. He would take every opportunity to brush his side against a tree or go under a low branch while raising the rider up. We developed a rapport. I was firm, never angry and learned how to get my leg up out of the way quickly.
#3 reminds me of the pony on my Grandfathers farm. Duke was an ornery critter that did not appreciate giving kids rides around the pasture. Duke had it figured out and he had a rout he would take to remove the monkeys (us kids) on his back . First was he would walk along side the back side of the barn nice and close and try to scrape you off .That failed 'ol Duke would make a bee line for the big oak tree in the middle of the pasture and try to duck underneath a branch and knock the unwanted passenger off that way. Basically every tree , post ,or structure was another opportunity for that darned pony to try to loose his precious cargo . It was fun to watch our know it all cousins from the city try to tame Duke, we all knew that wasn't happening. Duke always won .
#3) I personally have nothing against horses even though one tried to kill me when I was a kid (and damn near succeeded) but everyone I know that has a horse has it to make some woman happy. I have this theory that if women and girls suddenly stopped liking horses that there would be trailers lined up outside the rendering plant.
