Hysteria has erupted here and abroad over President Trump’s threats to level trade tariffs against particular countries.
Both American and foreign critics blasted them variously as either counterproductive and suicidal or unfair, imperialistic, and xenophobic.
Certainly, tariffs are widely hated by doctrinaire economists. They complain that tariffs burden consumers with higher prices to protect weak domestic industries that, shielded from competition, will have no incentive to improve efficiency.
It is (D)ifferent when a Democrat does this. Republicans just can not. Just wait for the inevitable law suit that is held in secret and tries to insert itself into the Administrative branch. Were going to see quite a few black robed rubes ejected from their bully pulpit.
ReplyDeleteTariffs? "Comme ci, comme ça". Only worry about something you can directly affect, like paying your bills even if tariffs cause them to go up.
ReplyDeleteIt's always the same bunch of whiny bitches, lining their pockets with our money while begging for a handout.

Still waiting for Epstein's list. Although at this point it would be fair to extrapolate just from the histrionics.
ReplyDeleteThey announced an official de-secreting secrets group and one of the things they are going after first is... Epstein's List. And UFOs. The assassination files.
DeleteGreat insightful piece. I would, as an Aussie speaking, have to say that a lot of western countries were seduced, willingly,to set up manufacturing in China to lower their costs of production.Mainly due to the human cost.Thinking they, with tax breaks, buildings supplied free, would reap millions. They did not stop to consider that the Chinese were doing this to provide employment for their rapid industrialisation and to "steal" western technology. So,in the main, I think we only have ourselves(read govts) to blame for getting on this free trade/globalisation bandwagon.
