Oatman, Arizona

Prospectors explored the Black Mountains area of Arizona as early as the 1860s. One of the early claims established during those years was named Oatman, after Olive Oatman, the young woman captured by Native Americans in the Arizona Territory after the infamous Oatman Massacre. Recognized for the distinctive facial tattoos she received while in captivity, she spent five years with the Mohave tribe before eventually being returned to American society.

  1. There is an interesting video online about her. Can't remember his name but he travels all over exploring old western sites. Atrocious what the Indians did to her and other white women. Her grave is out in the desert.

    1. I've probably seen the one you're talking about, but I've run across several videos about her.
      I think Steve at Sidetrack Adventures has a video about the site where it happened.

  2. The donkeys have run of the town. They are pretty good at coming up to you nad trying to catch a free snack.
