Visiting Japan's Biggest Earthmoving Machine!

Earlier this year, we traveled to Japan to visit Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) to see how they build medium and mining-class excavators.

While that was FANTASTIC, I also asked if we could visit a customer. They had one in mind at a quarry north of Tokyo. Great—I expected a relatively big machine.

But when they told me it was a Hitachi 5600, I thought they were joking... But they weren't!

  2. My brother was running the largest excavator in FL at one point. Hitachi EX1200. Digging lakes and raising the ground for housing developments. I'm 6'4" and I could stand underneath the back of it. The thing was huge!

  3. The biggest I've operated is a Cat 409, I believe. Use a 309 2-3x/month.

Has to be a 2 meter+ wide bucket.
