The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results
TOKYO (AP) — A climber airlifted with altitude sickness from near the peak of Japan’s Mount Fuji last week returned to the slope and was rescued for a second time just four days later, authorities said Monday.
Yeah, I think it was Einstein who gave that definition first. I disagree, though. I think doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of stupidity.
Altitude sickness hits different people different ways. I used to run around at the 10,000 foot level in the Sierras with no ill effects but had a friend that started getting severe headaches at 8500 feet.
I experienced the beginning of altitude sickness after taking the cable car up the Aiguille de Midi (12,600') at Mont Blanc in the French Alps. My wife was unaffected, and happily climbed the steps up from the car to the pinnacle. I was barely able to remain seated and take the car back down. I sincerely don't want to go through that again.
