  1. I read some of the comments on the video. A guy tossed a half empty water bottle in a vat of molten metal. The explosion killt him and two others, hospitalized others. I knew it wasn't smart, but I had no idea such a small amount of water could cause that kinda problem.
There are some interesting comments over there.

    1. Justin I live near an aluminum plant that made screen doors, window ect. One day a kid on a fork lift went out and got cylinders of aluminum to put in the furnace. Just the moisture from the morning dew blew that plant to hell. He killed himself and I believe four or five other. I heard the boom, ran out and saw the roof falling back down on to the plant. It was Kawneer in Harrisonburg Va. Happened I think about 74.

  2. Good thing the people had already cleared out. There's not enough PPE in the world to save you from that.

  3. Another interesting comment over there, Justin -

"My grandfather worked in a lead refinery back in the 1950s. His I.D. card was stamped steel, because if you got caught in an accident like this, that would be the only thing left of you."

    1. Yeah,, I saw that one too. YaKnow, I and my Runnin around buddy were in Morgan City La,hunting jobs. Barges with cranes, looks interesting, let's stop in there. Walking by the pole with the Help Wanted sign i noticed that sign was welded up there. Me, having read Sherlock Holmes works, realized the options. People quit, get fired or get Killt so often they are always hiring. Back to the car,, in the next yard was an offshore rig, being rebuilt, Worked for Rowan drilling for several months. Challenging jobs were great, but risking becoming a few gallons of coolant in a pool of molten lead? Naaah..🤐

  4. I worked at a foundry in the late 80's. Had a crucible fall off the overhead crane once. Killed a line worker. The crane operators were the highest paid workers in the plant.

  5. Jesus Mortimer Christ! And just how and how long was it to clean it all up?

  6. First shift (00:00 to 08:00) were the scariest times with drunken crane operators at the steel mill. In either the open hearth or blast furnace you would see a ladle car swinging from side to side.

  8. I was an engineer at a steel foundry for a while. Molten steel has the viscosity of water. An old timer told me about an accident where a guy got burned to death by a spill ... he had time to tell some co-workers to tell his wife he loved her.

  9. A guy I worked with had a similar story about a molten steel accident in Detroit. There was a forklift operator caught in the middle of the spill. He tried to run for it and just disappeared.

I've been around occupational hazards, but the foundry and steel mill are on another level. It's kind of impossible to comprehend how hot molten metal really is. It doesn't need to get on you, if it's in the same room with you it can fuck your shit up.
